Fourth Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (MISPA-IV)

Contributions of Civil Society: October 28 - November 13, 2013

In preparation for the Fourth Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security (MISPA-IV), which will take place November 21-22, 2013 in Medellin, Colombia, the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, together with the Department of International Affairs, is pleased to announce that an online discussion forum will be launched to promote and facilitate civil society participation in the MISPA process.

The virtual forum, which will be open from October 28 through November 13, 2013, will provide civil society representatives the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences, as well as offer ideas and proposals to OAS member states regarding the topic of MISPA-IV “International Cooperation”.

Specifically, ministerial-level dialogue will center on three key topics:

a) regional cooperation strategies to prevent and deal with threats to public security (Join discussion);

b) joint investigation, crime observatories and forecasting (Join discussion); and

c) hemispheric networks and platforms for police information exchange (Join discussion).

Participants in the online discussion forum will be encouraged to reflect on these topics. The outcomes of the virtual forum will then be compiled, distributed and presented to the Ministers of Public Security for their consideration during MISPA-IV in Medellin.

The forum, which is being organized in coordination with the Summits of the Americas Secretariat, and moderated by Dr. Ana Clara Camarotti, Doctor in Social Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, is open to all participants registered with the Summits Virtual Community (SVC), as well as civil society organizations registered with the Organization of American States in accordance with CP/RES. 759 “Guidelines for Civil Society Participation in the Activities of the OAS”.
